This workshop has been approved by the NJBPTE for 18 CEs (#2304-58) Taught by 3 experienced PTs & yoga teachers, this workshop is designed for rehabilitation professionals with and without yoga experience who are interested in learning how yogic practices can be integrated into rehabilitation plans of care for persons with neurological conditions. Participants will learn holistic and practical strategies that can be used with patients/clients on Monday morning. Participants will view rehab sessions through two different lenses using a case-based approach. One, through the lens of traditional examination and therapeutic interventions. The other is through the lens of a therapeutic yogic approach. Lectures will include a review of scientific literature that supports the practice of yoga for improving function and well-being. Lab activities will allow participants to practice postures, breathing, meditation, and real-world examples of how to apply them with patients with neurological concerns. *Prior to the workshop, participants will be required to independently read and appraise scientific articles that will be the basis for discussion throughout the workshop. Objectives: By the end of this course, participants will be able to: - Perform basic yoga postures, breathing and meditation techniques - Select postures, breathing, and meditation techniques for patients/clients neurological conditions - Appraise and describe the scientific articles on yogic approaches for persons with neurological conditions - Compare and contrast traditional and yoga interventions for patient conditions
